Journey in Sales

By:

Team WISE

A career in sales can be an arduous yet rewarding journey, often requiring you to lean into our skills, overcome self-doubt, and surround yourself with people who can help you grow personally and professionally.

In our live panel discussion "Journey in Sales" our panelists Caroline Shomber (PitchBook Data), Ainee Dehradunwala (Movable Ink), Alex Memmi (EliseAI), and Katie Capuzzo (WISE) shared their journeys and perspectives in navigating a career in sales.

Here are some key takeaways to guide you in your professional journey.

Filter the feedback.

Our careers are long and in the early days, you'll likely get a lot of feedback. Listen, but don't automatically implement it if it's not coming from a trusted source. If you're being told a blanket statement like "sales isn't for you," that person may not be the one to call out your strengths and help guide you to the right role.

Finding a mentor who will both challenge and encourage you is important when navigating your career path. Explore mentorship through WISE!

Lean into your skillset.

Are you persistent, analytical, or a good listener like our panelists? These traits can be applied to enterprise sales, business development and customer success.

Reflect on your skillset and explore opportunities that will highlight those strengths.

Know your boundaries and set expectations.

We care deeply about our careers and because of this, it can be easy to set aside our needs for the business. Our careers are meant to add to our dynamic lives, not be all consuming.

If there's confusion about an expectation, ask questions, get clarity, and set boundaries appropriately so you can flourish both professionally and personally.

Opportunities abound in a sales career, we encourage you to be open to different roles and seek guidance from your champions.
